WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – This week’s Always Aggressive Podcast takes a look at the Purdue wrestling team’s performance at Big Ten Championships, the Boilermakers’ NCAA Championship pre-seeds and their first-round matchups at nationals. Head coach Tony Ersland reflects on some of the individual performances and the overall toughness of this year’s Big Ten Championships, which advanced 100 of its 140 entrants to the national tournament.
Purdue had five placewinners, four automatic qualifiers for nationals and three more earn at-large bids on Tuesday. Senior Devin Schroder and junior Thomas Penola both earned top-12 seeds at their respective weights as Schroder earned the No. 9 seed at 125 pounds, while Penola is the No. 11 seed at 197 pounds.
Schroder is the fourth wrestler in program history to earn three top-10 seeds at the national tournament.
