David Hoffman came to Virginia Tech from the Hill School in Pennsylvania. After a stellar high school career that culminated with a couple of National Prep championships and a runner-up finish at the USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle National Championships, Hoffman headed to wrestle for then-coach Keith Mourlam at Virginia Tech.
Hoffman then stuck around when Tom Brands took over the post for two years and finished his career as an All-American at 141 pounds. After a six-year run as an assistant coach at Bucknell under former Hokie assistant Dan Wirnsberger, Hoffman came back to Blacksburg to join Kevin Dresser's staff.
On Episode 4 of Inside Virginia Tech Wrestling, we'll talk with Hoffman about his career in wrestling and what drove him to coaching and also ask him about what he picked up along the coaching years at Bucknell.
We'll also do a quick recap of the tri-meet against Gardner-Webb and North Dakota State and look ahead to the big match with No. 4 Ohio State on November 23 at Cassell Coliseum. There's also a little tease about the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, which is on December 5-6.
There will also be the Virginia Tech Coaches Clinic held on Nov. 22-23 in Rector Fieldhouse with a special speech on Friday by legendary coach Dan Gable. Coach Gable will also give a technique session on Sunday. Information on the clinic can be found by clicking here.
