To call Kevin Kearns a “longtime” contributor and coach with Maryland wrestling would be an understatement. Kearns, who started his wrestling career in 1966 with the Terps, is approaching his 40th year on staff in College Park.

On Episode 13 of the Maryland Mat Chat, we start with a discussion about Maryland wrestling and its history, but quickly dive into the mind of a great wrestling storyteller. Kearns tells us about his tour of duty in Vietnam, training with the Iron Sheik in Minnesota, meeting Bob Hope and owning a restaurant in Delaware where one of his patrons was future Vice President Joe Biden.

The man who worked with five of the seven coaches in Terp wrestling history gives us some straight gold in this episode.
